Food, clothing and shelter are said to be the basic necessities of life and the bitter truth is that many in our country are unable to get these three.Debutant director Sanjay Jha's film takes a close look at the Mumbai chawls and the people living in them. Basically ''PJPSNJ'' is a woman-oriented subject where we will get to see Raveena Tandon breathing life into her character.
There are 49 families comprising of 239 individuals living in a chawl. The conditions that they live are pathetic. Yet in the most inhuman living conditions and lack of privacy the 49 families become a part of a bigger family. Joy, sorrow, grief and elation are what each member feels for the other. ''PJPCNJ ''particularly takes a close look at the apathetic conditions that the women are made to live in. Seen through the eyes of a woman it tells us story about how a drunkard expects his wife to take care of him even though he beats her day in and day out. Another woman has to keep smiling even though her heart is filled with sadness. Yet another is ridiculed and taunted just because she is the breadwinner of the family. The oppression becomes too much and woman decides to become the voice of the oppressed. But these chawl dwellers have a serious problem to face as one ambitious man Praveenseth makes up his mind to demolish the chawl and build a 'Patelwala complex' on its place.
The movie is set in the background of a metropolitan city and the problems projected by the characters are real. The film stars Raveena Tandon, Diya Mirza, Namrata Shirodkar, Rinkie Khanna, Shweta Menon and Divya Dutta. Apart from making a brief appearance in the film as a don, Mahesh Manjrekar pens the script of the film that has music by Daboo Malik. The film is expected to hit the theatres sometime in April.
